The Story Behind MvZ

Picture this: a passionate comic book fan with a dream, a pen in hand, and a vision to bring something extraordinary to life. That's me! Fueled by my love for story-telling and the city I call home, I envisioned a world where my hometown is overrun by the undead, and that's the spark that ignited Memphis vs. Zombies.

As a Memphian, I wanted to infuse the rich cultural tapestry of my city in a comic that not only entertains, but resonates far beyond the Grind City. I've seen how this city can band together and stand up for itself, and I was curious to see how that might play out in increasingly dire circumstances. So, I started thinking about what makes Memphis special to me, and what gives the city its personality. How can I infuse the soul of the city, the grit and grind, and a sense of humor into a captivating zombie-epic!?

As I wrote the script, I dreamed up characters that I see everyday (and some delightfully quirky characters who I'd love to meet) and imagined how they may interact. I've named them all (almost all) after Memphis music legends (except the cat, B.B., who's named after my cat, B.B., who's named after a Memphis music legend). I wondered, "Where do these characters live and work, and how do I want the reader to experience Memphis through their eyes?" As for the zombies, I thought about how they come to be and why Memphis? The answers to those questions (which will not be answered in Issue #1), I hope, will rock your world!

I've written the scripts and have been working on character designs, cover art, etc. Unfortunately for me, the interior art has been a challenge. But, I'm hoping to find some artists who can work with me to create a vibrant and engaging book.

I can't say this enough, but thanks to everyone who's pledged so far! I hope you'll enjoy the book when it's released! Memphis vs. Zombies, overall, is going to be a love-letter to the city of Memphis, to my supportive wife and my (soon-to-be-born) daughter.

Stay Thrilled!
